Kickers Offenbach shakes the mountain despite losing the cup against KSC | hessenschau.de

Kickers Offenbach gave the second division team from Karlsruhe a real fight in the second round of the cup. The atmosphere at Bieberer Berg is first-class despite the elimination – and shows what is possible at OFC.

Fans, players, those in charge, actually everyone who supports Kickers Offenbach, received a special kind of praise on Tuesday evening from, of all people, a guest. When Christian Eichner, coach of Karlsruher SC, who had just reached the second round of the DFB Cup with his team after a tough struggle, began his final statement, he emphasized to OFC coach Christian Neidhart: “I wish you .” Good luck in getting up one floor in the end. Not much more needed to be said after this football evening on Bieberer Berg.

The fourth division team from Offenbach narrowly lost the second round match against KSC 0-2 (0-0), but the stadium on Bieberer Berg shook like in the best of times. The game against the second division team was sold out, something that had last happened in a competitive game in Offenbach in the damned relegation against Magdeburg a whopping nine and a half years ago. The one game that had to be played afterwards in front of only 3,500 spectators due to the storm on the pitch was left out.

Neidhart: “We don’t have to hide”

The 90 minutes of the cup weren't always a football celebration on the pitch, but they were in the stands. Starting with a choreography worth seeing before the party. “It was a great evening of football, the fans made it a great game,” said OFC coach Neidhart after the encounter. For a long time, the regional league team also ensured that there was tinder in the party on the pitch.

Especially in the first section, the Offenbachers were at least equal – if not a little more. However, the Kickers missed out on good opportunities from Boubacar Barry (17th), Dimitrij Nazarov (27th) and Ron Berlinski (45th+1). That took revenge in the second section. The guests from Karlsruhe struck twice, first Budu Zivzivadze scored (62nd), then Marcel Beifus (72nd) made the final score. “It was deserved for the KSC,” explained Neidhart without envy, but also emphasized: “We don’t have to hide today.”

OFC will take the cup fight into everyday league life

No, definitely not. The OFC offered the KSC a real cup fight, even if in the end it wasn't enough to reach the round of 16. After the 90 minutes, this was also acknowledged with sustained applause by our own supporters. “We take that with us and want to give it back to the fans in the league. We know what is possible in this stadium,” said attacker Ron Berlinski.

The problem for the OFC is: This Tuesday, with its huge backdrop, remains an exception for now. From the weekend it's back to everyday life, with the away game in Walldorf on Sunday. Completely normal, very simple regional league fare. But that's exactly where the Offenbachers haven't been able to convince in the past few weeks.

To the article

“The game in Walldorf is completely different”

The cup with the win against Magdeburg and the strong team against Karlsruhe was the winner, and the league is mandatory for the rest of the season from Sunday. If you want, as KSC coach Eichner put it, “one floor higher”. The change from the trembling Bieberer Berg to the dreary atmosphere in the Dietmar Hopp Sports Park in Walldorf is now immense.

Coach Neidhart is aware of the task and emphasized immediately after the game against Karlsruhe: “The game in Walldorf is completely different.” Anyone who experienced the scenery on Tuesday in Offenbach must realize that this contradiction is pointless.
