New Haven dispatcher arrested for assault

NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) – A New Haven dispatcher was arrested for assault on June 14, 2024 after an incident escalated from an argument to violence.

At approximately 12:06 p.m., officers responded to a private residence to an attack that had occurred several hours earlier at a shopping center on Whalley Avenue.

Initially it was a verbal argument, but further calls revealed that a physical attack had occurred.

Video footage captured by responding officers showed a male suspect punching another man who was sitting on the ground outside a store in the plaza.

However, at the time of the incident, officers were unable to identify the attacker.

After the video was widely shared on social media, the suspect was identified as Justin Augustine, a Public Services Answering Point (PSAP) officer for the New Haven City Civilian Fire Department and Police Department.

Augustine turned himself in on June 21, 2024, after a warrant was issued for third-degree assault, second-degree menacing and second-degree breach of peace.

He has since been released on a court-set bond of $2,500.
