Mike Tyson responds to Eddie Hearn's claim his fight with Jake Paul was 'disrespectful to boxing'

  • Tyson has shared his reaction to the criticism he received surrounding the fight

Mike Tyson has responded to British promoter Eddie Hearn's criticism of his upcoming fight with Jake Paul.

Tyson, 58, will face YouTuber boxer Paul, who is 31 years his junior, in Texas on November 15 and Hearn has made no secret of his opposition to the competition.

Hearn will attend the event to promote Katie Taylor's rematch with Amanda Serrano on the undercard, but has insisted he will leave the arena before Tyson and Paul enter the ring as the fight is “dangerous, irresponsible and disrespectful to “boxing”.

Former heavyweight champion Tyson was asked for his opinion on Hearn's comments and replied: “Well, that's Eddie's opinion and that's all I can say.”

Hearn isn't the only one worried about Tyson's safety ahead of next month's fight, which is scheduled to be broadcast live on Netflix.

Fans are also worried after Tyson revealed he would rather “die in the ring” than in hospital.

In a promotional video on Netflix, Tyson said: “I don't do anything unless I risk being embarrassed,” Tyson says.

“Like now, I want to fight this young mother

“This is really important for me, if I win I will be immortal.”

“If I do bad, I don’t want to die in a hospital bed, I want to die in the ring.”

The fight between Tyson and Paul was originally scheduled for July, but the fight was postponed after Tyson suffered a medical emergency on the plane.

He required medical attention due to an “ulcer flare” and the fight with Paul was postponed.

But there are still a little more than two weeks until the final implementation. Almost two decades after his last professional fight, Tyson will take on Paul in a sanctioned bout over eight two-minute rounds.
